It Won’t Happen Over Knight

With all the excitement with school starting, something that I’m most excited about is attending Rutgers sporting events, especially the Scarlet Knights’ football games. Growing up as a Rutgers fan I have seen the highest of highs of the team and the lowest of lows. However, the past is the past and the team is beginning a new season soon. With joining the BIG Ten a couple years ago, there has been new expectations for the Scarlet Knights. Furthermore, with hiring a new Athletic Director and head football coach there is added pressure for the team. However, since joining the conference Rutgers has finished in the bottom half of the division each regular season. This is hopefully to change soon as the rebuilding process has already begun. Coach Chris Ash is looking forward to future accomplishments of the team as he hopes to be “one of the best football programs in the B1G Ten.” However, one of the main problems why Rutgers is not there yet because many New Jersey recruits look to play elsewhere as they feel that gives them their best chance to play at the next level. For example, 5 star recruit from Scotch Plains, New Jersey Rashan Gary decided to take his talents to The University Of Michigan who plays in the same conference. Even as Rutgers was the first to offer him an athletic scholarship in eighth grade, Gary ended up not committing with Rutgers. Gary did say the in-state school will “always get love” but that wasn’t enough for Gary to choose the Scarlet Knights. Hopefully, Rutgers can move past this problem and improve the motivation for players to commit to the team. The Scarlet Knights will look to start off this year strong as they search for more success this season and in the future.
